Meet Assistant Chief James ‘Jim’ Ninnis

Jim joined the Deep Gap Fire team in 2024 along with his daughter, Megan. Assistant Chief Ninnis holds many Fire, Rescue and Incident Command certifications along with being an NR-EMT. Before moving to Western NC, Jim worked for the Virginia Department of Emergency Management. He also is a member of the Watauga County Rescue Squad. in May of 2025, Jim was elected by the department to the rank of Lieutenant. Following in 2026, Jim was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief. He is a valuable asset to our department and community!
