On May 19th, just before 6:45pm, Deep Gap FD was dispatched to US Hwy 421 for a reported unconscious bicyclist down along the highway that was not breathing. Bystanders stopped and first responders arrived on scene and started life saving measures. Through multiple rounds of CPR, shock of an AED along with other interventions, life was brought back for this local resident!

Watauga Medics, Watauga County Rescue Squad, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, State Highway Patrol and an Appalachian State University Police Department officer on his way into work also assisted with this amazing outcome!

Just a week later, the patient and his family invited the first responders and bystanders to their home to show their gratitude.
