
DGFD Responds to 200+ Acre Wildfire
On the evening of Wednesday, November 8th, Deep Gap Fire Department along with multiple other local and state resources were dispatched to the area of Elk Creek Rd and Powder Horn Mountain Rd in reference to an outside fire. DGFD assisted with personnel, a Type VI engine and accountability/staging management. Our fire station was also set up as a temporally Red Cross shelter for those that evacuated the area. The incident occurred in our neighboring Stewart Simmons Fire District and was estimated to be approximately 200 acres. As of the morning of November 11th, the fire is at 90% containment per the NC Forest Service.
