DGFD responds to multiple grass fires!
Deep Gap Fire Department got a little busy on the afternoon of April 18th, after a vehicle driving down Hwy. 221 & Hwy. 421 started multiple fires along the roadway.
At approx. 3:30pm Deep Gap was dispatched to a grass fire off Hwy. 421 near the Natural Gas station. Shortly after dispatch, a second fire was called on 421 at the Pepsi plant. While Deep Gap was responding, members found 2 more fires along Hwy. 421 near N. Pine Run Rd. and Deep Gap was dispatched to a 5th fire at Hwy. 221 and Cranberry Springs.
Deep Gap Fire along with assistance from Stewart Simmons Fire, Fleetwood Fire, NC Forest Service and Watauga County Sheriff’s Office made quick work to extinguish all the fires within our district by 4:15pm.
The vehicle was finally stopped in Boone after setting 3 more fires in the Boone Fire District. It was determined that faulty equipment was the cause of all fires and no ill intent was involved!
Deep Gap would like to thank all our mutual aid agencies for their quick response and great teamwork to extinguish all the fires quickly!
